Celebrate the beauty of autumn with Kikuju no Shiro, a limited seasonal ceremonial matcha from Gion Tsujiri in Uji, Kyoto.
Made from tencha harvested in early summer, around the 88th day after the beginning of spring, the tea leaves are carefully processed and aged before being stone-ground into a fine, vibrant green matcha. This careful aging process allows the matcha to develop a beautifully mellow character, with a rich sweet aroma, deep umami and gentle sweetness that unfolds across the palate.
Kikuju no Shiro offers a smooth and rounded flavour with a gentle yet profound depth, making it particularly suited to kuchikiri go-usucha. The rich aroma and mellow umami create a refined drinking experience that captures the changing character of matcha through the seasons.
For this limited autumn release, Kikuju no Shiro comes in a special maple leaf tin, designed to evoke the vibrant colours and atmosphere of autumn in Japan.

about gion tsujiri matcha
Gion Tsujiri's matcha is made from young tea shoots grown under shade to protect them from direct sunlight. After harvesting, the leaves are steamed and dried without rolling before the stems and veins are carefully removed, leaving the delicate leaf flesh known as tencha.
The tencha is then slowly ground using traditional stone mills to create a fine matcha powder. This traditional process preserves the tea's vibrant green colour, rich aroma, mellow umami and natural sweetness.
A special seasonal matcha to enjoy slowly, Kikuju no Shiro is an invitation to pause, appreciate the changing seasons and experience the refined character of Japanese ceremonial matcha from Uji, Kyoto.
