aoarashi matcha by marukyu koyamaen

aoarashi is where many people begin their journey with marukyu koyamaen. as one of the most beloved matcha in their ceremonial collection, it has earned its reputation as an everyday favourite — approachable, balanced, and effortlessly enjoyable.

crafted in uji, kyoto, the historic heart of japanese matcha production, aoarashi delivers the perfect introduction to authentic ceremonial matcha. it is smooth and well-rounded, with a gentle sweetness, soft umami, and a subtle seaweed-like freshness that lingers beautifully on the palate.

unlike many matchas at this price point, aoarashi holds its character incredibly well when paired with milk. it stays vibrant in iced matcha lattes, remains clean and satisfying as traditional usucha, and adds genuine matcha depth to desserts and baking without overpowering other flavours.

whether you are taking your first step into ceremonial matcha or have been enjoying japanese tea for years, aoarashi is the matcha you will keep reaching for.

flavour

calm and robust with a balanced combination of gentle bitterness, soft astringency, and natural sweetness. smooth texture with fresh vegetal notes, delicate seaweed umami, and a clean finish.

everyday matcha lattes, iced matcha, traditional usucha, and baking. a versatile ceremonial matcha suitable for both beginners and experienced matcha drinkers.

origin & production

producer: marukyu koyamaen
origin: uji, kyoto, japan
established: 1704

with over 300 years of tea-making expertise, marukyu koyamaen is one of japan's most respected matcha producers, known for its dedication to traditional craftsmanship and exceptional quality.

aoarashi is made from carefully selected first spring harvest tea leaves, which are shade-grown before harvest to enhance chlorophyll levels and develop the vivid green colour, smooth texture, and rich umami that high-quality japanese matcha is known for. the leaves are then traditionally stone-ground into a fine powder to preserve their aroma and flavour.

the name

aoarashi (青嵐) means "green storm" in japanese, inspired by the refreshing early summer winds that move through lush green landscapes. the name captures the essence of this matcha — vibrant, refreshing, and full of life.

storage

store in a cool, dark place away from heat, light, and humidity. seal tightly after each use to preserve freshness. for the best flavour and aroma, consume within one month after opening.
