Yugen is a full-bodied matcha with rich peanut and grassy notes, balanced by a gentle tartness and lingering natural sweetness. More intense than Aoarashi and Chigi no Shiro, yet more refined and sophisticated than Isuzu, it showcases the deeper sweetness and complexity found in higher-quality matcha.
The meaning of Yugen 「又玄」
The name Yugen was given to Marukyu Koyamaen by Hashimoto Gyōin, the former head priest of Yakushi-ji Temple. It comes from the words 「玄之又玄、衆妙之門」 from Laozi, expressing the idea of something so profound that it goes beyond the deepest depth and the finest of the fine.
